The quarter at a glance
What changed
Broward ended 2025 with a different competitive map around the convention center. Omni welcomed its first guests on December 18, bringing a large hotel and several dining outlets into service together. For nearby restaurants, the opportunity is specific: meeting groups, arrival-night dinners and guests who want to leave the hotel. Selling to that audience requires a workable group menu, dependable transport and a clear booking contact.
New restaurants also reached Deerfield Beach, Oakland Park and Plantation. December closures in Wilton Manors, Fort Lauderdale and western Broward show why an opening list needs a closing list beside it. A familiar address can lose its operator while a new dining room opens nearby. Underwrite each trade area from its own residents, workplaces and visitor demand before assigning value to countywide growth.

Our read
What the quarter tells us
A room block is a sales lead, not a restaurant reservation
Omni adds a new source of potential diners near SE 17th Street. It also serves those guests in-house. An independent restaurant should sell a reason to leave: a private dinner, a local menu or a short outing that fits the meeting schedule. Build an offer around arrival time, bus access, dietary requirements and payment terms. Start with the planner, then work backward to kitchen capacity. [10]
Coastal openings need more than a waterfront address
Del Mar and The Break House entered established beach districts with different service formats. A waterfront location can attract a first visit; repeat business depends on the full bill and the ease of getting there. Owners should cost parking, host coverage and weather disruptions alongside food and labor. A rooftop or patio needs its own rain plan and staffing trigger. [6][2]
Suburban dinner competition is becoming more specific
Bondi in Oakland Park and Saiko-i in Plantation add sushi-led options outside the beach and downtown core. The useful comparison is the occasion each one serves: a quick meal, a bar visit or a group celebration. Match your menu, booking rules and service pace to that occasion. Trying to win all three with the same floor plan can leave the kitchen carrying the complexity. [1][12]
An empty dining room still needs a full review
Several established neighborhood restaurants stopped trading in December. That may put familiar addresses back into circulation, but a closure does not establish that a lease is available or that the premises suit another concept. Before pursuing a former restaurant, verify the landlord’s position, equipment ownership, permits and required repairs. Compare the cost of making the room work with the sales the immediate neighborhood can support. [3][4][5]
Access changes are an operating detail worth testing
The new Connector changes the route into the convention district. That matters to a group dinner that depends on a coach arriving on time or a delivery reaching the kitchen before service. Test the route during an event, update guest directions and check unloading arrangements with the property. A shorter route has value only if the whole arrival process works. [14]

At quarter-end
What to watch next
The outlook below reflects information available at the close of Q4 2025. An announced date is a target, not a confirmed opening.
Omni’s first full trading quarter
Watch how meeting groups use the new hotel’s restaurants and surrounding businesses. A large room inventory supports a sales prospect list; it does not establish how many off-property dinners any restaurant will capture. Ask planners for the actual schedule before building packages. [10]
ViceVersa’s defined residency window
The Four Seasons residency was announced with a May 2026 end date. Track its operating schedule and any extension announcement before treating it as permanent competition. Temporary bar programs can still compete for local guests and experienced staff. [13]
Port Everglades investment phases
The county approved a long-term port investment plan in November. Treat the plan as a sequence of future projects, each with its own funding and construction schedule. Cruise-adjacent restaurant demand should be tied to the terminals and sailings actually operating when the business opens. [15]
Decisions to take back to the business
- Build a group-dining sheet for the convention district with capacity, menu price, travel time and a named booking contact.
- Visit the new competitor that serves your strongest occasion. Record the total bill, service time and parking process.
- For a former restaurant site, obtain the equipment inventory and permit history before negotiating a build-out budget.
- Separate beach, hotel and resident demand in the first-quarter sales plan. Give each a measurable weekly target.
Common questions
Broward: the practical questions
Did Omni Fort Lauderdale open in 2025 or 2026?
The hotel began welcoming guests on December 18, 2025. That first trading date places it in the fourth-quarter review. A later opening celebration does not change the service date.
Which parts of Broward added restaurants in Q4 2025?
The documented openings include Fort Lauderdale, Deerfield Beach, Oakland Park and Plantation. They range from hotel outlets and a temporary bar residency to independent and expanding restaurant brands. Their service formats matter more than a single countywide opening count.
Does a Broward restaurant closing mean its space is available?
No. A permanent closing establishes that the business stopped operating at that location. Availability, equipment rights and a replacement tenant require separate confirmation. The closure inventory makes no claim about those lease conditions.
Research notes
Sources and coverage
Documented inventory assembled from month-by-month opening and permanent-closure searches, municipality searches, local reporting and operator announcements. Entries use the event quarter, not the article month. Separate hotel food outlets are counted once each; the hotel itself is a separate project milestone. A temporary residency is labeled. This is a source-based inventory, not an official census or a measure of net restaurant growth.
Coverage limits and unresolved items
- Tom Jenkins’ Bar-B-Q announced December 21 as its final day. The sources reviewed did not provide a sufficiently clear post-closing date confirmation, so it remains outside the counted inventory pending a final verification.
- Hellenic’s relocated Coral Springs restaurant and Bar Betty were described as open in early January, but the sources did not establish which side of December 31 their first service fell on.
- Golden Chariot in Davie and NY Pizza Place in Deerfield Beach were announced for late 2025. An actual opening date was not established.
- Small independent venues without dated public announcements may be absent. Temporary inspection shutdowns and closures outside October through December were excluded.
- Talkin’ Tacos announced a December 5 Coconut Creek opening. Its Davie plans later carried a February grand-opening date; first soft-service timing remains unresolved. These are retained in the research ledger for follow-up.
- Hotel figures describe STR's Fort Lauderdale market in the final month, not a calculated Broward quarterly average.
Event dates determine which quarter an entry belongs to. Source publication dates and this report’s publication date are recorded separately. Later reporting may verify an earlier event; it does not move that event into a later quarter.
